The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United
Nations’ global development network, advocating for change and
connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to
help people build a better life. At the global level, UNDP’s
focus is on helping countries build and share solutions to the
challenges of: Democratic Governance, Poverty Reduction, Crisis
Prevention and Recovery, Energy and Environment, Information and
Communications Technology and HIV/AIDS.
Since 1962, UNDP has been operating in Syria, cooperating
with the government and focusing on human development issues.
The State Planning Commission (SPC) is UNDP’s main counterpart
in the government. Working closely with the SPC ensures that
international cooperation programmes and internationally agreed
development goals are brought in line with national development
priorities, simultaneously ensuring that projects meet the twin
needs of priority and sustainability.
The UNDP programme in Syria is designed to address two
functions:

To meet the increasing demand for policy advice and capacity building in support of the government’s economic and social transformation, and
-
To position the UNDP in its rightful place among the donor community as the proponent of human centered, participatory and sustainable socio-economic development. In this context the programme has a strong advocacy component.
In support of Syria’s current transition the UNDP programme centers in five practice areas:

بتاريخ 7 يونيو 2002 تم الاتفاق بين برنامج ادارة الحكم في الدول العربية (
Pogar) التابع لبرنامج الامم المتحدة الانمائي (UNDP) واتحاد المصارف العربية (UAB) لوضع قاعدة معلومات مقارنة تضم النصوص القانونية المتعلقة بالمهنة المصرفية في الدول العربية. بدأ العمل في بناء قاعدة المعلومات في مطلع شهر يوليو عام 2002 واستغرق حوالي ثمانية اشهر بحيث انتهى في شهر مارس عام 2003، وسيتم نشر هذه القاعدة عبر شبكة الانترنت من موقع برنامج ادارة الحكم في الدول العربية www.pogar.org، ومن موقع اتحاد المصارف العربية www.uabonline.org. وسيتولى اتحاد المصارف العربية الاستمرار في تحديث وتطوير مضمون هذه القاعدة بصورة دورية وبشكل اصدارات مستمرة. ويعتبر نشرها في مطلع عام 2003 الاصدار الاول لها.
