Syrian Currency Accounts

Arab and foreign nationals, whether residents or non-residents, may open accounts in Syrian Pounds to be used for domestic spending, and can not be transferred abroad.

Exchange rates applicable to all transactions

The exchange rate system in effect from the start of 1998 includes the following rates:

1. The official exchange rate : One US Dollar = SP 11.20 – 11.25,  is applicable to :

   -  Repayment of installments and interest resulting from payment and clearing agreement, and banking arrangements.

   -  Public sector` s fees and expenses due for payment in foreign currencies

    

2. The exchange rate (neighboring markets rate) : One US Dollar = SP 46.00 – SP 46.50 is applicable to all transactions (public , private, commercial and non-commercial ).
